This is the same 5-domain structure (and nearly identical weighting) used in several other Prometric states, including Louisiana — though not every Prometric state uses these exact percentages, so don't assume this transfers everywhere.

Hawaii CNA Skills Test — What to Expect
The clinical skills evaluation is conducted at a Prometric skills testing site. You will be assigned 3 skill tasks, and scored on 2 more automatically: handwashing (not prompted — you're expected to know to wash your hands before and after resident contact) and "indirect care" (resident rights, communication, safety, and infection control observed throughout). Your time limit ranges from 31 to 40 minutes depending on which 3 tasks you're assigned.
You must pass all 5 skills to pass the Clinical Skills test — not just your assigned 3. Hawaii evaluators pay close attention to hand hygiene and infection control throughout.

How to Prepare for the Hawaii CNA Exam
Hawaii's written exam first-attempt pass rate is approximately 70–75%.
1. Take a full 60-question diagnostic practice test before studying. Review your scores across all five Hawaii content domains — there's no single 45%-of-the-exam category like the generic NNAAP format.
2. Prioritize Basic Nursing Care and Safety — the two largest domains at 24% and 22% — but budget real study time for Role of the Nurse Aide and Function/Health too, since they're close behind at 20% each.
3. Practice under timed conditions — 90 minutes for 60 questions, a faster pace per question than the standard format.

After You Pass — Hawaii Nurse Aide Registry
After passing both parts of the Hawaii exam, your name is added to the Hawaii Nurse Aide Registry maintained by the Department of Health. Employers in Hawaii are required to verify registry status before hiring nurse aides in licensed facilities.
Your Hawaii CNA certification is valid for 24 months. To maintain active status, you must work as a nurse aide for at least 8 hours for pay during each renewal period. Lapsed certifications require retaking the competency exam.
