Free Louisiana CNA Practice Test 2026 — 60-Question Prometric Exam
Louisiana CNA exam facts for 2026: 80-hour training, Prometric vendor, a 5-domain test plan (not the standard NNAAP 6), $125 fee, and free practice questions.
Louisiana CNA Exam — Key Facts (2026)
Here is what every Louisiana CNA candidate needs to know before sitting for the exam — note that Louisiana's written exam format is genuinely different from the generic NNAAP template:
• Training required: 80 hours (40 classroom + 40 clinical)
• Exam vendor: Prometric, on behalf of the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH)
• Written exam: 60 questions, 90 minutes — not the 70-question/2-hour format most states use
• Skills exam: 5 skills total (3 randomly assigned + handwashing + "indirect care," always scored)
• Exam fee: $125 for the first attempt (written + skills combined); retesting just the written portion is $40, just the skills portion is $85
• Retake limit: up to 3 attempts at each portion, within 12 months of completing training — a shorter window than the 24 months most states allow
• Registry: Louisiana Nurse Aide Registry, maintained by LDH
If you've studied using a generic "70 questions in 2 hours, 70% to pass" practice test, recalibrate — Louisiana's real exam is 60 questions in 90 minutes, and your retake clock runs out faster than in most states.
Louisiana CNA Certification Overview
To become a Certified Nurse Aide in Louisiana, you must complete a state-approved CNA training program and pass the Louisiana Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation administered by Prometric on behalf of the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH).
Louisiana requires a minimum of 80 hours of CNA training — 40 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours of clinical practice.
The exam has two parts:
• A written (or oral) knowledge test: 60 multiple-choice questions, 90 minutes
• A clinical skills evaluation: demonstration of 5 skills (3 randomly assigned, plus handwashing and indirect care, always scored)
You must pass both parts — within 12 months of completing training — to be listed on the Louisiana Nurse Aide Registry.
Louisiana CNA Written Exam — What Is Tested
Louisiana doesn't use the national NNAAP content outline — Prometric's own Louisiana-specific test plan breaks the 60 questions into 5 content domains:
• Basic Nursing Care Provided by the Nurse Aide (24%) — routine and emergency situations, observation and reporting
• Promotion of Safety (22%) — hazards, injury prevention, infection control, emergencies, fire safety
• Role of the Nurse Aide (20%) — personal responsibility, team membership, communication skills
• Promotion of Function and Health of Residents (20%) — personal care skills, health maintenance/restoration, age-related changes, psychosocial needs
• Providing Specialized Care for Residents with Changes in Health (14%) — physical and psychological problems, end-of-life care
Louisiana's written exam is also capped at a sixth-grade reading level by state requirement — don't let that make you complacent, though, since the content itself still covers the full range of nurse aide competencies.

Louisiana CNA Skills Test — What to Expect
The clinical skills evaluation is held at a Prometric skills testing site, drawn from a published list of 20 tasks. You'll be assigned 3 tasks and automatically scored on 2 more: handwashing (not prompted) and "indirect care" (resident rights, communication, safety, infection control). You must pass all 5 to pass the Clinical Skills test — not just your assigned 3.
The NAE who administers your test cannot teach, coach, or discuss your results. You may correct a step while performing a skill, but once you tell the NAE you're finished with that skill, you can't go back and fix it.
The Louisiana Nurse Aide Candidate Handbook is available on the Prometric website and lists every possible skill task.
How to Prepare for the Louisiana CNA Exam
Louisiana's written exam first-attempt pass rate is approximately 70–75%.
1. Take a full 60-question diagnostic practice test before studying. Review your scores across all five Louisiana content domains — don't assume one category dominates.
2. Prioritize Basic Nursing Care and Safety — the two largest domains at 24% and 22% — but budget real study time for the other three, which are close behind.
3. Practice under timed conditions — 90 minutes for 60 questions.
4. Target 80% on practice tests before your real exam — with only 12 months to pass both portions, you don't want to burn attempts on an under-prepared try.

After You Pass — Louisiana Nurse Aide Registry
After passing both parts of the Louisiana exam, your name is added to the Louisiana Nurse Aide Registry maintained by LDH. Louisiana employers must verify registry status before hiring nurse aides in licensed facilities.
Your Louisiana CNA certification is valid for 24 months. To maintain active status, you must work as a nurse aide for pay during each renewal period. Lapsed certifications require retaking the competency exam.
Registry status can be verified through the Louisiana Department of Health website.
