CMA (AAMA) Exam at a Glance
The CMA (AAMA) uses a scaled scoring system. A raw score is converted to a scaled score out of 800, and the passing threshold is 430. On practice tests, aim for 75% or higher before scheduling your real exam.
8 Topic Areas Covered
Our practice test draws questions from all 8 AAMA content areas in approximate proportion to the real exam. Each topic below shows its exam weight so you know where to focus your study time.
Vital signs, medical terminology, patient interviewing, documentation, and processing provider orders.

Patient exam prep, surgical assisting, wound care, specimen collection, and CLIA requirements. Largest section.

How to Use This Practice Test
Step 1 — Take a 20-question diagnostic. Start with a 20-question run without looking anything up. Your score report will show which of the 8 topic areas need the most work.
Step 2 — Read every explanation. After each test, read the explanation for every question — including ones you got right. Understanding why an answer is correct (not just which letter) is essential when question wording changes on the real exam.
Step 3 — Simulate real exam conditions. Take the full 60-question test with the timer running to practice pacing. The real exam gives you roughly 1 minute per question.
Step 4 — Aim for 75%+ before scheduling. The passing score on the real CMA exam is a scaled 430/800. Consistently hitting 75%+ on practice tests gives you a comfortable buffer for exam day variation.
